Welcome to Wisconsin Girls Hockey

Wisconsin Girls Hockey is dedicated to helping promote girls hockey within the state of Wisconsin. We would like to help the individuals participating in the fastest growing sport get the recognition they deserve. Also, we want other individuals to be introduced to girls hockey. Girls hockey is the sport in its most purest form. As more young girls start playing hockey, the skill level of the players will increase. We welcome your input to the site and most importantly encourage you to support the teams throughout the state.

Hockey News

The 2008-2009 Hockey Season

The 2008-2009 hockey season has begun. There are many exciting things happening this season. First we have three new WIAA teams: Beaver Dam/Randolph; Beloit Co-op and Marshfield. Also, Lakeland will be participating in Regionals this season. This brings the total number of Girls high school teams to 29 and caused the WIAA to realign the sectionals.

The teams and competition will improve every season. This year I have been able to see at least three high school games. I was very impressed with the ability I and teamwork I witnessed on the ice by the Cap City Cougars (Sun Prairie Co-op). I need to ask for help from other fans on having information passed on concerning teams.

As for Point Streak, I realize there are numerous teams that have decided not to use it this season due to the cost. I still want to be able to track statistics for all of the teams throughout the state. Therefore, we will be keeping our own statistics database in addition to Point Streak. We need to be able to see how all of the players are doing and help to let everyone in the state know the talent levels of these individuals. Girls hockey is still the fastest growing sport, but as with every level of hockey (boys and girls) we need to keep it growing.

We all realize the economic state our country is facing and it would be foolish for us to think it will not have an effect on our sport and children. As fans of hockey, we need to find ways to make this sport more accessible to any individual that wants to participate. The hockey community needs to work together and share ideas as to how to make this happen. This is what a family does and we all belong to the hockey family.
